Pyeongchang, South Korea - David Ramos, Spain-based photographer with Getty Images: “I have been assigned to cover the whole competition of Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games along with my work mates Clive Rose and Cameron Spencer.
We arrived in Bokwang Phoenix Park a week before the Opening Ceremony and were already working during that week on finding the best photo positions at the different courses at the Olympic Extreme Park. We also spent that time looking for new photo positions which would allow us to create different frames. That week gave me the chance also to see how the light works on every course.
It is a very important week. We have to test all the cables that our IT technician Marc Pont had been running for weeks before our arrival, sometimes under very hard weather conditions with temperatures reaching -27C. Marc's job allows us to send our pictures through to our team of editors to our clients in seconds. As you can see, this is a full team effort and I am very proud to be part of the Getty Images team.
Covering the Olympic Games means that you always have to be ready to capture key moments. They can happen on any unexpected moment or any unexpected corner. Here at the Phoenix Park, our moment was the Snowboard Men's Final. Shaun White won his third gold medal on a really tense final. I was able to catch Shaun in tears, showing his emotion after the winners ceremony at the venue. This is so far my best moment of this amazing Winter Olympic Games”.
