Camera Firmware

This guide is for camera "C" firmware version 2.xx

Viewing the Firmware Version and Updating Firmware

You can view the firmware version and update the camera firmware via [Firmware version] in the setup menu. The firmware can be updated using either a computer or a smart device (smartphone or tablet).

  • Using a computer: To check for updates, visit the Nikon Download Center at the URL below. Information on performing updates is available on the firmware download page.

  • Using a smart device: Once you have paired the camera and smart device using the SnapBridge app, the app will notify you when a new firmware update is available, allowing you to download it to the camera memory card. Information on performing updates is available via the online help for the SnapBridge app. Note that you may not be notified of updates as soon as they are available.

Changes to Video-Related Features in "C" Firmware Version 2.xx

Camera "C" firmware version 2.xx includes the following changes to the video-related features available in firmware version 1.xx (changes to other features are not listed):

Video Recording

Video File Types

  • RAW options are now available for [Video file type] in the video recording menu (see this section).

Video Quality

  • [Video quality (N‑RAW)] has been added to the video recording menu (see this section).
  • [Extended oversampling] has been added to the video recording menu (see this section).

Exposure

  • [Extended shutter speeds (mode M)] has been added to the Custom Settings menu in position g9 (see this section).

Focus

  • [Wide-area AF (C1)] and [Wide-area AF (C2)] have been added to the options available for AF-area mode (see this section).
  • [Focus point selection speed] has been added to the Custom Settings menu in position a14 (see this section).

Controls and Displays

  • [View video info] has been added to the options available for Custom Setting g1 [Customize menu] (see this section).
  • Custom Setting g2 [Custom controls] now supports additional controls and roles (see this section).
  • [Fine ISO control (mode M)] has been added to the Custom Settings menu in position g8 (see this section).
  • [Brightness information display] has been added to the Custom Settings menu in position g14 (see this section).
  • The [Histogram] options for Custom Setting g15 [Custom monitor shooting display] and g16 [Custom viewfinder shooting display] have been replaced by [Brightness information] (see this section).
  • [Red REC frame indicator] has been added to the Custom Settings menu in position g17 (see this section).
  • [Auto temperature cutout] has been added to the setup menu (see this section).

HDMI Output

  • [1080i (interlaced)] has been added to [HDMI] > [Output resolution] in the setup menu (see this section).

Video Playback

  • [Save consecutive frames] has been added to the options available in the menu while video playback is paused (see this section).
